Tips for keeping your AKTA Start™ in good working order:
Daily:
Visually inspect the instrument for leakages in the flow path.
Regularly check the Pump for leakage. If there are signs of liquid leaking from the Pump, check the integrity of the pump tubing and the tubing connections.
Always clean the column and the system flow path after use and leave the system filled with DM water.
Weekly:
Calibrate the pump.
Visually inspect the inlet filters and clean them if necessary.
Monthly:
Clean the instrument.
Clean the fraction collector.
Calibrate the touch screen.
Clean the conductivity cell.

AKTA Start™ Troubleshooting Tips:
If you’re facing issues with the touch response, re-calibrate the instrument display.
If the display backlight is not working, perform Display →Diagnostics and adjust the backlight setting if necessary.
If you are seeing ghost peaks, degas the buffer before use, clean the system flow path, and clean the column.
If you are getting incorrect or unstable readings or out of specification conductivity values, clean the conductivity cell, and check that the conductivity module cable is connected properly to the connector behind the flow cell.
If the pump is giving out an erratic flow, remove the air bubbles trapped in the flow path by flushing the flow path with DM water or buffer.
Warning code 011 (system over-temperature) can be caused by temperatures which are too low or too high. If you are using the system in a cold room or chromatography refrigerator, ensure the temperature is not below 4°C. The problem can also be caused if the temperature is over 35°C, which is usually due to the instrument being in direct sunlight.
If you cannot power on your system, check the fuses located adjacent to the main power inlet. Disconnect the instrument from power, use a small flat-head screwdriver to open the fuse cover, then manually remove the fuse and inspect it. The fuse is type F5AL250V.
